Timetable aux États-Unis: time difference and opening hours
Time difference aux États-Unis
There are 6 time zones in the United States. Since 2007, the changeover to summer time takes place on the second Sunday of March and the changeover to winter time on the first Sunday of November. But Arizona remains in Mountain Time all year long (the time change is only applied in the Navajo reservation). Keep in mind to simplify things that the time difference is : - 6 hours with the East Coast of the United States (when it is noon in Paris, it is 6 am in New York) and - 9 hours with the West Coast (when it is noon in Paris, it is 3 am in San Francisco).
Eastern Time
: - 6 hours. New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Louisville...Central Time
: - 7 hours. Minneapolis, Chicago, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Des Moines, St-Louis, Kansas City...Mountain Time
: - 8 hours. Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, El Paso, Albuquerque, Cheyenne, Flagstaff, Tucson, Helena...Pacific Time
: - 9 hours. Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas...Alaska
: - 10 hours.Hawaii: - 11 hours. These time zones do not follow the meridians or state borders. Thus, there may be a time difference within a state or between two neighboring states.
Opening hours aux États-Unis
To see / To do aux États-Unis
With 35,000 museums, the United States has something for everyone. For a quiet visit, choose the beginning of the week, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, or any day of the week between September and February. From mid-March to the end of July, the number of visitors reaches records. And Saturdays are busy all year long! In some remote states, museums, houses and historic sites are closed from January to the end of May, and even close the day after Halloween for 6 months. Everything only reopens at the end of May, for the Memorial Day weekend.
Enjoying yourself aux États-Unis
With the presence of many fast-food restaurants , there are no time limits. It is possible to eat at any time in the USA. It is not uncommon to go to a restaurant for lunch at 3pm. For dinner it is around 5-6pm. You often have to wait in line for a long time before finding a table, or even before buying a sandwich.
Take a break aux États-Unis
Americans are early risers. You can easily find bars open as early as 6am. Many close around 5pm, especially in rural areas.
(To) please yourself aux États-Unis
Department stores close at 10 or 11 pm and are open on Sundays. But the small stores and the stores of the cultural places close around 5 pm, except possibly one night per week.
Get out aux États-Unis
In New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and of course Las Vegas, you can go out every night. No day off! The Promoters offer parties in clubs and rooftops, from Monday to Sunday. Girls (over 21 of course) do not pay the entrance fee. And for those who are allergic to clubs, there are hundreds of bars and restaurants in the most animated areas of the city. In summer, there are many free concerts. Young people often spend Sunday afternoons on the terrace before going to a dance bar.
