There are hardly any nightclubs or pubs with live music in Greenland outside the capital or Ilulissat during the summer months. However, the cultural centers of Nuuk and Sisimiut offer a year-round selection of films, music, theater and dance performances. For opening times and days, which vary greatly according to the season, please enquire directly on site.

Expect to pay around DKK 100 for a cinema ticket, and more for a show.

Events don't happen that often, so book in advance to be sure of a place. It would be a shame to have travelled so far only to find yourself on the doorstep!

What's very local

The Inuit drum dance, mask and song performances are not to be missed under any circumstances: you can't help but be captivated, not to say in a trance, by these traditions straight out of ancient times with the shamans. It's worth noting, however, that today's Greenlanders are more interested in rhythmic, modern dances such as polka (kalattuut) and rock, or even techno or electro for the younger crowd.
