Celebrated every year on¹ September, this date marks the end of Soviet domination over Uzbekistan. Even if this independence was more suffered than desired, insofar as it is due to the collapse of the USSR, Uzbekistan, which initially remained in the bosom of Moscow, whose darling it was in Central Asia, quickly took a liking to freedom and since then has undertaken a clever balancing act between Beijing, Moscow, Washington and Europe. In 2021, Uzbekistan celebrated its 30th anniversary of independence despite the gloomy context of the pandemic.
