No surprise when it comes to pubs and nightclubs: the alacrity is usually at its peak during weekend parties.
To be booked
For theatrical performances, concerts, dance shows and other festivals, reservations are not mandatory. However, it is highly recommended in order to avoid any disappointment on the day... As far as sporting events are concerned (football, rugby...), apart from the big names that can be played to full houses, you should be able to attend most matches without booking in advance...
Night transport
At night, especially when leaving Kampala's clubs and bars, you can choose between VTC (Uber), taxi(special hire) or boda-boda. Be extremely careful if you choose the latter. Indeed, although it is not common, some tourists have been robbed by motorcyclists under the cover of darkness... In order to avoid such a mishap, don't hesitate to compile the phone numbers of trustworthy riders you meet during your stay. You will be able to draw from your list at the appropriate moment. Age restrictions
The sale of alcohol is forbidden to minors (-18 years) in all bars. An identity document, in order to verify your age, is sometimes requested at the entrance of certain discotheques.
Smokers
Smoking is officially prohibited in bars, discos and entertainment venues. Violators face up to two months in jail or a fine of US$60 (215,000 Ush). However, in the posh clubs and cafes - where controls are not very frequent - the law is sometimes lightly circumvented...
