MAHA SHIVARATRI

Maha Shivaratri means "the great night of Shiva", so it takes place at night. During this event, Hindus celebrate the victory over "darkness and ignorance" in the world, and celebrate the wedding of Shiva and Parvati. You will hear the mantra "Om Namah Shiva" chanted by monks and devotees all day in the temples, where offerings of bael leaves, flowers and incense are placed near the lingam, the representation of Shiva.
