Detail of the stay : In the heart of the rainforest for the more adventurous - 5 days

  • Brus Laguna
  • Puerto Lempira

Day 1: En route to La

La Ceiba. Exit from La Ceiba by pick-up to take a boat from Pueblo Nuevo to Raistá, where you then spend the night in a small hostal of a local family.

For the more sports: It is possible to travel from La Ceiba in 4 x 4 to Olancho. From here you can reach the heart of the Rio Platano biosphere by walking (accompanied by mules to carry your luggage), then continue with a descent of the river into rafting (class I to IV) with camping, fishing, caves, pre-Columbian archaeological sites, bird watching... to finally reach Las Marias, then Raistá and resume this idea of stay from Day 3.

Day 2: By boat through lagoons and rivers

Raistá. A beautiful adventure awaits you: 7 hours of travel through lagoons, canals and rivers in a small wooden motorboat to Las Marias. An authentic introduction to life for local residents who travel daily (by small boat) from where they live to the agricultural plantations where they work. They generally live on the coast and work along the river, inland, inland. Unfortunately, the surroundings of the few small towns on the coast are quite deforested... but in motorboats or canoes, by going up the rivers, you can then enter the dense wild jungle.

Day 3: Miskitos villages and petroglyphs

Las Marias. Cross the village of Las Marias to board a pirogue (where you can row if you wish, but it is usually local guides who do the main part of the work) for 3 hours against the current to go up the river to the petroglyphs of Walpaulbansirpe. You can swim in the river before returning to Las Marias for dinner.

Day 4: Towards Nicaragua?

Steps: Brus Laguna, Puerto Lempira

. Retounez then in Raistá for one day in the Moskitia, on the coast, before returning to La Ceiba.

Travel to Nicaragua: from Raistá, it is possible to reach Nicaragua easily, take at least 4 days of travel. Every morning a motorboat leaves in the morning, very early, at 6 p. m., towards Law Laguna (1 p. m.), then a boat allows you to reach Paptalaya (Rio Patuca) before going on pick-up towards Rio Ribra (via Ahuas), then by boat to Puerto Lempira (arrival around 15 h). There are many hotels where to stay. The next day you can take a pick-up that takes you to the Frontière border Station (3 hours trip) and connects you with a pick-up for Waspam or Puerto Cabezas (Bilwi).

Day 5: Journey back

La Ceiba. Prendez a boat for Pueblo Nuevo, then a pick-up for La Ceiba.
