Things to see and do West Bohemia

Shorter than the Diana funicular, it will take you to the most massive hotel in town, from where you can enjoy a great view of the valley. To tell the truth, it is especially interesting if you stay at the hotel. But the view is so beautiful from the hotel that we recommend you to take the funicular and have a tea or refreshment in the Belle Époque lounges during the sunset. A splendid view is guaranteed.

Information about the city and the park of Šumava.

This protected natural area is the most important in the region. Very sparsely populated, it covers a large triangle of 610 km² whose peaks would be Karlovy Vary, Cheb and Mariánské Lázně. The altitude is modest: between 374 m and 983 m. But the overall landscape is exceptional: forests, meadows, Prameny rock formations, mineral and gas eruptions and especially the set of peat bogs around Kladská. Beautiful hiking trails crisscross the area.

This land with peat bogs, called Von Šovsko (or Soos), is an exceptional phenomenon in Europe. These landes of volcanic origin cover a 10 mile stretch over 2 mile wide. Peat, transpierced by mineral springs, creates very spectacular gas geysers.

The city has two springs that have become the goal of walks for both curists and visitors.

The spring of François. In the southern part of the town, one can quickly recognize the round pavilion from 1832 that houses the spring. Nearby is a colonnade from 1914 (Nová kolonáda), guarded by a sphinx.

The Glauber Spring. In the park, just south of Františkův pramen (Františkův pramen), one will reach Glauber spring (Glauberuv pramen) protected by a majestic pavilion.
