Le Mont Ventoux, the Giant of Provence

To start the journey through the Vaucluse, we leave Savoillans to join Malaucène. The introduction allows you to dive directly into the heart of the matter, with the ascent of a steep path. However, the effort is worth it since after a ride on the ridge, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Mont Ventoux. There, time stops for contemplation and identification of its main passes and steep climbs. It is then in Brantes that you must stop for a break. This village perched at the northern end of the department enchants with its network of alleys, its houses with old stones and its castle which offers a remarkable view of the Ventoux. Then the paths alternate, between technical and rocky descents and climbing paths. We can see some century-old oaks before reaching the Col du Comte, which appears as a remote valley. Before arriving in Malaucène, the spring of Groseau offers a last moment of freshness. Above the source is a geological curiosity known as the "Porte Saint-Jean".

Discovering Provençal Colorado

During the 46 kilometres between St-Saturnin-lès Apt and Vottrolles-en-Lubéron, some landscapes are like a journey beyond borders. The ochre massif displays shimmering colours, with an orange-red colour that dominates the sandy paths and rocks. It is a striking contrast to most of the mineral reliefs of Provence. The route then leads you to a monotonous ridge along the Calavon River and it is at this point that the village of Céreste appears. There is a well-preserved medieval heritage with the famous Carluc Priory, located only 3 kilometres from the village. Before reaching your destination, you will have taken the time to test your mountain biking skills by passing through the ridges of Montjustin, where the eponymous village renovated by Giono and his friends is located.

The Durance, the Alpilles and villages steeped in history

The road that separates Lauris from Mérindol is full of surprises. From Lauris, an ascent starts with the wonderful valley of the Durance, the Alpilles and La Crau de Camargue as background. The path is not easy, with rough and technical trails, but the panorama is worth it. Then enter a cedar forest before reaching the foot of the Ubac du Grand Lubéron. The vegetation is contrasting and deserves attention. Then follow the villages of Oppède-le-Vieux, Maubec and Robion, with their Provençal architecture and rich historical heritage. After a walk along the Petit Lubéron, it is a charming path that leads you straight to the old town of Mérindol.
