HAMMAM (HAMUM-E GANJ ALI KHAN)

Local history and culture
5/5
1 review

Built in the seventeenth century for the governor of Karman, Ganj Ali Khan, the hammam was transformed into an ethnological museum. See on the portal the hunting scenes Qadjar, where derviches and animals seem to intertwine. Note also the poem, based on the numeric value of each letter. Once inside, wax costumes and dummies give an idea of life in the region until the beginning of the twentieth century.

A second hammam is located a little further in the main aisle. It has been transformed into a tea house and restaurant and frequently hosts traditional music orchestras.

FERDOWSI MEMORIAL

Memorial to visit

The Mémorial Memorial (940-1020) rises to the supposed place of its tomb in the heart of a beautiful park. A modern stone work, the mausoleum was built in 1933 in commemoration of the millennium of the death of the poet. A neo-classical bill, the disparate architectural elements inspired part of the achaemenid era. In addition, the whole is the style of the tomb of Cyrus, supplemented by Capitals capitals and the symbol of Ahura Mazda. A small museum, located below the mausoleum, shows contemporary bas-reliefs, illustrating episodes of the Shâh Nâmeh. After the Islamic revolution, the mullahs ordered the dismantling of the memorial, judged not to be in conformity with the strict religious line. Today, the public is re-open to the public, and is looking forward to its «great man», now praising the decisive work that has been done to safeguard the Farsi language, which was at the time threatened by Arabic.

The structure, pre-Islamic, dates back to the sassanide era. The entire sobriété will be converted into a mosque in 820, two centuries after the invasion of Persia by the Arabs.
