Saint-Clar is the leading garlic-producing town in the Gers, a pretty village of around 1,000 inhabitants overlooking the Arratz valley, north-east of Fleurance and surrounded by hillsides. You'll be charmed by the village's medieval heritage, with its covered market, two arcaded squares, the church of Sainte-Catherine, the garden of the four seasons and the bishop's palace, now home to the media library. In summer, Saint-Clar comes alive with concerts and theatrical performances, as well as gourmet evenings in the squares.

Keen to promote the commune's heritage and exceptional natural setting, Simorre town council supports a number of initiatives that make this charming village a place dedicated to ecotourism, and to living well together: hiking trails, a festival and fishing trail for children, a cultural bar-restaurant... This work has been rewarded by the award of the international Cittaslow label, distinguishing towns committed to promoting a pace of life more respectful of nature, and conducive to the well-being of residents and visitors alike.

Fleurance town hall welcomes you on the first floor of the pretty covered market. It promotes the town's image, encourages cultural projects and looks after its architectural heritage. As a result, Fleurance was awarded the "Commune touristique" label of excellence in 2013. The Carnival and Astronomy Festival attract large numbers of visitors. Two companies specializing in natural plant products and a research laboratory on the therapeutic properties of plants place the town at the top of this sector.

The Pôle d'Équilibre Territorial et Rural (PETR) of the Pays des Portes de Gascogne was born in 2001 out of an administrative need to control the development of the east of the Gers. The will was to create a link between an active and dynamic urban population and a rural and aging territory. The PETR ensures the preservation of the environment and the living environment so dear to the people of Gers. It supports projects that allow a sustainable way of life to emerge in this territory.
