When to go dans la Haute-Vienne ?

150 km from the Atlantic, Haute-Vienne has a temperate oceanic climate with a slight mountain tendency, due to its proximity to the Massif Central and its altitude (between 150 and 750 m). Snowfall is limited to one or two days of heavy rainfall per year, usually at the end of January. Summer gives way to a mild autumn, a true Indian summer. The department records about 65 days of rainfall per year. The north enjoys a dry and mild microclimate, unlike the southeast mountain.

Between the Périgord Limousin regional nature park and the Millevache regional nature park in Limousin, this humid and green territory does not have a very high tourist season, nor does it suffer from very cold winters or scorching summers. One can stay here pleasantly almost all year round. The sunniest and driest season is, of course, summer. Made up of plateaus, crossed by a few gentle valleys, including that of the Vienne, and the foothills of the Massif Central, the Haute-Vienne has contrasting climates, reflecting its relief. Six distinct climatic zones have been identified within which the conditions of altitude and exposure can still lead to significant weather differences.

Discover la Haute-Vienne

Rooted in a strong heritage and modern vitality, Haute-Vienne is a region where the art of gesture meets the memory of stone. In Limoges, the capital of porcelain, expertise shines through in craftsmen's workshops, museums and historic factories, witness to a centuries-old heritage. Precious, colorful enamel still blazes on jewelry and objets d'art. This love of fine craftsmanship radiates throughout the department, and the built heritage tells a thousand stories: Limoges' Gothic cathedral, the medieval streets of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, the collegiate church of Eymoutiers, Rochechouart castle... Even the granite bridges gracefully bear the weight of time. Here, culture shines through, and towns and villages come alive to the rhythm of festivals. Haute-Vienne opens its arms to you. Discover an authentic land where you'll immediately feel at home.
