Perched on the 21st and top floor of the Golden Jubilee Towers, Akemi is the city's highest restaurant and one of its best. The large, rounded, glass-walled room offers a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean to the west and Kurasini Creek to the south. The tables are arranged in a circle around the central buffet which is a sure bet. The menu is a delightful mix of Indian, Asian and Western specialities with Zanzibar spices. Live music every Friday between 5 and 7 pm. Reservation recommended for dinner.

There are few interesting local restaurants in Pangani, with visitors eating in their own lodges or in those nearby. The best restaurant in the area, at the Mkoma Bay Hotel, is set on a cliff top with an open terrace offering a breathtaking view of the bay. The restaurant offers a full dinner each evening with a choice of three dishes (fish, meat, vegetarian) of African and European inspiration, beautifully and subtly cooked, varying according to the inspiration of a local chef. A meeting place for gourmets and romantics.

This is an arty, designer café in the trendy Masaki district. It marries exotic wood furniture with a beautiful floor, while white walls and picture windows overlooking the vegetation add brightness to the place. Cosy gray and blue velvet sofas complete this magnificent setting. On the menu: coffees, juices, breakfasts, burgers, salads... But also original hot bowls, buddha bowls, and a creative children's menu. We loved the Bambara bowl (millet, avocado, walnuts, shallots, red pickles, mange-coco and lemon sauce).

Don't look for a distinguished place here, but a modest and unpretentious local canteen, where nothing is expensive and everything is good. The dishes are copious and varied, and we recommend the local specialities, which are better prepared than the others, but there are also Indian, Chinese and vegetarian dishes on the menu... just like Dar, presented with care like a buffet. The place is particularly clean, the setting friendly and the welcome excellent. A small terrace with plants, which receives the sun at the end of the afternoon: a delight!

Just a few dozen meters from the Clock Tower, in a small park along the waterfront, you'll find a number of unpretentious snack bars where you can enjoy Tanzanian street food in the open air and in the company of locals. Don't hesitate to take a tour of the marquee where the stalls are set up to get an idea of the range of burgers, samosas and chapatis (doughnuts) on offer. The prices are more than reasonable and the dishes are tasty and varied. Two shaded terraces are available for customers to air their taste buds with a view on the kitchens. Those who like ugali, chapati and pilaf rice (here we say pilau rice) will have a great time, while others will enjoy a Tanzanian-style pizza.

The unlikely and richly flavoured marriage of Korean and Swahili cuisine is experienced at this table. It is celebrated by Nyurki, a South Korean who recently moved to Bagamoyo with his Tanzanian wife. Nyurki laments that most of his customers prefer to sample the dozen or so Swahili dishes on his menu, even though he also offers Korean and Chinese specialties, as well as other mixed dishes of his own invention, such as a delicious rice and shrimp dish served in pineapple. Moreover, the restaurant offers a taxi back to the hotel.

The reference of Ethiopian gastronomy in Dar since 1998. We come here to taste the exoticism of Ethiopian cuisine, which consists of the traditional ingera cake (a cereal that only grows on the Ethiopian highlands). If the service is classy, the clientele takes its ease in casual clothes: here, it is almost a seaside resort. Well-being above all. And they spoil you. Delicious assortment of breads. Barbecued fish directly on the terrace. Expertly prepared dishes. Opera music intermingles with the throbbing ebb and flow. A true delight for the senses.

Café Blanc is a café located in the trendy Masaki district on the Msasani peninsula. It's a stylish, all-white café with an arty, designer interior and green terrace. On the menu, at any hour of the day or night, you'll find teas, a wide range of coffees (espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, etc.) and fresh fruit juices. Excellent breakfasts are served in the mornings, and at lunch and dinner, you'll find vegetable-packed green dishes: wraps, sandwiches, burgers, tartines and fine salads. A good place for a break or to work on the move, as the wifi is excellent.

This Italian restaurant, which prepares good pizzas cooked on a wood fire, is a good option for dining out in Tanga, right in the centre. Nashe's Café is an excellent Swahili restaurant, but also a busy bar. It has the advantage of being well known in Bagamoyo for its large upstairs terrace overlooking the ocean, which makes it the ideal place to have a drink in the late afternoon. In addition, there are karaoke nights every Friday night. And the wifi works well. Its decoration is very worked, the framework is really pleasant, the prices are reasonable. It is the ideal place from breakfast to dinner, and in the evening to have fun.

This Italian restaurant is renowned for its artisanal pizzas and typical dishes from the Botte. It is run by Chef Giuseppe Vitiello, a true Italian who knows how to make Neapolitan pizzas with crispy dough, noble ingredients and taste. The artisanal pasta and seafood dishes such as linguini alla vongole (with clams) are just as tasty. The restaurant also offers a gluten-free menu and a children's menu, for which it reserves an outdoor playground in the pleasant garden.

The Slipway Hotel has a beautiful restaurant right on the waterfront, popular for its sunset view, its sea food and its live music and DJs on weekends. A really nice atmosphere. The terrace, with large benches, green plants and wooden tables, is a nice place to have a drink. The main dish of the place: grilled fish Tahitian style draped in a banana leaf. Enticing, isn't it?

Thai Kani is an excellent Thai and Japanese restaurant that serves specialties from both countries, such as sushi, and offers a beautiful view of the sea. The dishes are exotic and full of freshness, it is its supply of ultra fresh fish that also makes its reputation. Salmon, sushi and Thai menus with photos of the dishes that are as appealing as they are real, everything is sophisticated from the menu to the plates. The terrace under the trees in front of the beach is a perfect spot to admire the beauty of the site. Excellent fruit juices as a bonus.

A small unpretentious Sino-Indian address like many restaurants in Dar es Salaam, located in the coastal district of Oyster Bay. Its speciality: barbecued chicken grilled in several styles: sekela, choma, lemon, masala, gajjar Sekela, chicken wings, snacks, soups, salads but also good burgers and smoothies. The Indian byriani is exceptional, as are the naans, tikka and tandoori. The place is pleasant, a large covered stage with wooden tables, outside.

We come here to devour good tasty burgers, it is the star of the menu. The choice is vast, the bread soft, the steaks are thick and tasty. You can also sip delicious fresh fruit juices, cocktails, share pizzas, some of them in delicious calzone, nachos, or even barbecued chicken legs. The setting in the garden is very nice and decorated with plants.
