CARAMELLES DE NADAL

The caramelles de Nadal are religious songs traditionally performed in the parishes of Ibiza and Formentera on Christmas Eve and the following days. They are celebrated in Sant Francesc, Sant Ferran and La Mola. The singing is punctuated by the sound of various instruments such as theespasí - a typical Balearic instrument - the flute and castanets. The composition is divided into three parts of about twenty minutes each, during which the espasíesquadres de caramellers ( caramel singers) celebrate the birth of Christ.
