MARCHÉ DE BELMOPAN

Covered market and market hall

Every day in the center of town, next to the bus station, you'll find stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables. Perfect for taking the temperature of the city. On Tuesdays and Fridays, people from all over the region come here for one of the biggest markets in the Cayo District. Here you can get a taste of what the region has to offer (cheese, meat, cold meats, vegetables, fruit...). The market opens at 5 a.m. and closes at the end of the day, depending on the success of sales.

Every Saturday, from sunrise to mid-afternoon, the district's residents and merchants gather in San Ignacio for the market. You'll find fresh produce (vegetables and farm products), clothing and a few handicrafts. It's also a great place to grab a bite to eat local specialities at low prices. It's one of the city's main social events, with a relaxed atmosphere that gives you a better grasp of the local way of life. And you can often hear live music. For lunch, the choice is yours!
