This is Dhofar's most exclusive resort, white and sober throughout, and the only one to offer, in addition to refined suites, accommodation in luxury villas with private pools. Straddling the ocean (sublime beach), wild lagoons and the archeological site of Al Baleed, the site is an exception. It's a big building planted on the beach between the Crowne Plaza and the neighboring villas. No charm on the outside, but it has the advantage of being fairly recent, and its 60 spacious rooms offer a good level of comfort, with TV, air conditioning, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and room service. If you're here, choose a sea-view unit with balcony to wake up to the waves. Coffee shop indoors and restaurant with pleasant beachside terrace. For a dip in the pool, head for the hotel next door, which belongs to the same owner.

It is the only youth hostel in the sector, clean and well maintained. It is located a little away from Salalah, about minutes drive from the city centre and the airport, on the road to Thumrayt. It has 32 suites (with private bathroom and kitchenette) and 16 fairly spacious rooms, all with telephone, TV with satellite channels, fridge and air conditioning. In the historic center of Taqah, this is Dhofar's only traditional guesthouse, renovated with meticulous care. It occupies the former home of an honorable merchant. Built over 150 years ago, it is a precious witness to the past. On three levels, 12 rooms with shared or private bathroom occupy the various rooms with walls made of local clay and stone. Furnishings and objects from the past, old-fashioned kitchens and sculpted doors all contribute to an immediate immersion. Breakfast is served facing the fort in the ground-floor café.

Here we are in a real five-star hotel, with pleasant rooms and suites. Although all of them are very comfortable, avoid the ones at the back that look out onto the highway, "the mountain" they say. Sea view is better, but it also means industrial harbor view as soon as you turn your head a little to the left and especially when you enter the beach. So, stay at the pool in its gardens and enjoy the good services and facilities of this small provincial palace. On site: tennis, fitness, diving club, several bars and restaurants.
