In the early Middle Ages, Hermits were very numerous in the Valdegovia Valley, which has 16 caves open today. These summary dwellings allowed hermits in opposition to the official Church, to practice asceticism and to come closer to God. There are three types of caves: the temple, the house and the necropolis. The best known of the region are Pinedo, Corro and Greatest.
