This tavern is located on the beach of Schinontas, just outside the port of Maltezana. Here you can eat very good food, prepared with good products, in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Thanassis, the owner of the place, has understood how to satisfy his customers: the immediate proximity of a beautiful beach (with umbrellas and deckchairs if you feel like it), a smiling and impeccable service, and an unbeatable freshness menu. All this with prices that remain reasonable. It's a great address, where we like to come back again and again.

Forget about the fresh fish and lobster that Astipalaia is famous for: at Tasos, the stars of the show are the grilled meats. The stars of the show at Tasos are the grilled lamb chops, the Greek-style steaks and the kid. It's all divinely simple and tasty, served on the heights of Schinontas beach, just outside the village. One overlooks the horizon, devouring all kinds of meats. Vegetarians should refrain: you won't find anything to your liking here apart from the accompanying vegetables.

Gerani's has been a safe bet for many years: this fish tavern offers hearty home cooking in a warm atmosphere. Try the zucchini flower fritters with the delicious grilled fish of the day (check the price). The hotel, slightly set back from Livadia beach, also offers clean and comfortable studios, nicely nestled in the greenery of a beautiful shady garden. They have been recently renovated and offer great value for money in Livadia

There are some worthwhile taverns in Chora: you will not be disappointed by the good family and traditional food served here. The specialty: stews or meat dishes in sauce. In particular, we will taste a good goat's kleftiko, cooked in the oven. On the other hand, avoid fish dishes that are not particularly well prepared, even if they are correct. You can't be good at everything: here you come for the meat, first of all. The pretty shaded terrace, located a little far from the other restaurants, is very pleasant.

It's certainly here, on the little port of Maltezana, that you'll eat the best fish and seafood on the island. The word of insiders and locals alike is that the Almyra tavern is renowned throughout Astypalaia for its undeniably fresh dishes, prepared with a touch of originality. Don't miss the revisited fish tartars, flavored with local saffron, or the tarama, the house specialty. A delight with a sea view. Some daily fish by the kilo may be a little more expensive, so ask for the price of the animal before placing your order.

The Akrogiali tavern spreads out its small tables directly on the beach of Pera Gialos, facing the imposing rock of the medieval castle and the heights of Chora: if only for this exceptional setting, you'll be delighted to have dined here at least once during your stay! In terms of gastronomy, the menu doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary, but simple, comforting fare: nothing better to recover from a hard day's vacation. You'll come for the family atmosphere at the end of the day and the romantic ambience in the evening.

Nestled on the seafront, this delightful restaurant is located at the end of the bay of Pera Gialos. The view of the horizon and the Venetian fortress is splendid. In terms of cuisine, the menu is refined, prepared with research and finesse. Freshly caught fish from the in-house caique are exceptionally well cooked (ask for the price of the animal before ordering to avoid unexpectedly high bills), but all the dishes on offer are well worth the detour.

A pleasant location, especially in the evening, with views of the illuminated Venetian castle overlooking the tranquil bay of Livadia. Also very pleasant during the day, between swims at the beach. You'll find great grilled calamari and other Greek classics here, as well as local specialties such as Astipalaia risotto, served with surprises from the morning's catch. At lunchtime, you can also enjoy a tyropita (cheese pastry) and a fresh salad, while watching the waves roll in and out.

Over the years, Agoni Grammi has earned a well-deserved reputation as the queen of fresh pasta. Traditional makarouns are handmade and prepared in a variety of sauces, to our delight. The classic Fisherman's pasta is obviously represented, but you can also sample more humble but equally succulent traditional dishes, such as makarouns with local kid meat. You'll find many of Astypalaia's specialties among the sharing starters.

This small, friendly tavern is located slightly back from the waterfront in Pera Gialos. The food is good and generous, served with a smile. The regulars are not mistaken, who come back here several times during their stays, depending on the fish arrivals. Indeed, here you have to order to reserve the catch of the day, which you will be served perfectly grilled and simply accompanied by good fresh vegetables. Do not hesitate to do as they do and reserve the fish dishes in advance. The desserts are delicious, a plus!
