This museum highlights the profound impact of the mining industry on Luxembourg, taking visitors behind the scenes of miners' work and into the country's industrial history. An impressive collection of books, documents, tools, machines, rock samples and other objects are on display. The museum also explores the daily lives of miners, their culture, traditions and challenges, both at work and at home. The rest of the site consists of :

The underground mine: the galleries of the "Walert" iron mine, in operation from 1891 to 1963, take visitors to depths of over 70 meters and house machines and tools.

Le carreau de la mine: the former locomotive shed features an exhibition retracing the history of Luxembourg's iron mines. The loading docks and machinery can also be seen here.

The mining train: this special train then takes visitors into a 3 km-long mine gallery, where a guide explains the different workings, showing the technical evolution of tools and iron ore extraction methods.

La Brasserie du Musée: housed in a former mine office, this establishment serves light meals and Luxembourg specialities.

A number of walks in the surrounding area allow visitors to observe the various stages in the renaturation of an abandoned mine.

THE HSMBC

Museums

Located in the heart of the country, the primary aim of the Centre de documentation sur les migrations humaines (CDMH) is to collect, preserve and share the personal and collective stories of migrants and their descendants, who have helped shape society in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. It organizes exhibitions, conferences, readings, round tables and thematic workshops. Its vast collection includes documents, archives, photographs, films, audiovisual recordings, oral testimonies and various publications. In addition to temporary exhibitions, free guided tours (subject to the availability of a guide) of the working-class immigrant district of Italy last around an hour. This concept of a "museum without walls" is centered around two alleyways: "l'Italie Haute", today's rue des Minières, and "l'Italie Basse", today's rue Gare-Usines. The aim: to understand the fundamental role played by migration in the economic, social and cultural development of this cross-border, cosmopolitan area. The CDMH also offers consultation and support services for those wishing to explore their family history linked to migration. It also works with schools to develop educational programs and raise awareness of the importance of migration among the younger generation. A must-see institution for curious travelers and history buffs alike.

LUXEMBOURG SCIENCE CENTER

Museum of history and natural sciences

Open since 2017, the Luxembourg Science Center is a fascinating place that encourages the discovery of science and technology in a fun and entertaining way. Nestled in Differdange, it offers an exceptional interactive experience for visitors of all ages. From the outside, the building may not look like much, but inside, there's a whole world of fun scientific experiments to try out and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of science (physics, electricity, magnetism, mathematics...). Nearly 100 interactive stations await the curious, enabling them to lift a car with just one hand, play table soccer with robots, watch astonishing demonstrations or even take part in scientific cooking workshops (access to workshops is only for 6 year olds and 8 year olds for the Show Cuisine).

Another of its projects is "Découverte des métiers", launched in 2019, which enables young people to discover, through hands-on experience, professions and skills linked to science, technology and the industry of the future. The aim is to bridge the gap between education and the professional world, preparing young people for careers in technology. In the same spirit, the Luxembourg Science Center makes resources available to teachers and educators via the ESERO project, co-developed with the European Space Agency (ESA).
