The bus is the most popular means of transport for Belizeans to get around the country. Most buses leaving Belize City do so from this terminal, located south of Haulover Creek. The main line is Blue Bird, which serves all the district capitals and most important towns in the country; from dawn to dusk, many other companies criss-cross the country. Corozal airport is anything but a major airport - some would call it an aerodrome - but its location, close to the Mexican border, makes it a good starting point for San Pedro for those who prefer the air to the sea. Tropic Air and Maya Island fly several times a day from Corozal to San Pedro (Ambergris Caye): 25 minutes at the most for a flight that is a journey in itself, as the areas overflown are superb and offer the opportunity to take splendid aerial photos of the reef barrier and the coast.

The Corozal bus terminal provides access to Belize City to the south and the Santa Elena border crossing to the north. Buses from Belize City pass through Orange Walk and run from dawn to dusk, and in the opposite direction; allow 3 hours for the journey. Their terminus is not Corozal, but Santa Elena, the border post with Mexico. For local travel, there are intermittent buses to Sarteneja, a 2-hour drive to the east.

Belize City's municipal airport is almost in the center of town, making it very attractive for those who don't have a car and need to fly to another city. Tropicair and Maya Island Air fly daily and regularly to all national destinations: San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Dangriga are all within easy reach. Check-in is quick, as the airport is not large. No need to go all the way to the international airport!

The Mexican company has set up a small ticket office at the local bus station. This opens about two hours before the buses leave, and tickets can be purchased several days in advance. After a three-year interruption, the service resumed in July 2023 and is now operating normally again. The bus stops in Chetumal before leaving Belize, and in Bacalar, Tulum and Playa del Carmen once in Mexico. Around ten departures a day to Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye (San Pedro). Once you have purchased your tickets, you can use them for the next 90 days. They are non-refundable. From Caye Caulker and San Pedro, you can take ferries to Chetumal in Mexico (about three a week, but check the website for seasonal changes). A small, friendly airport with two restaurants upstairs and a few souvenir stores on the first floor, where you can wait comfortably between flights. There is only one ATM in the airport departure hall, which often poses problems for non-American bank cards. Thunderbolt boats leave Corozal from the municipal port and sail to San Pedro via Sarteneja. It is therefore also possible to board in Sarteneja instead of having to return to Corozal. Corozal and San Pedro are two hours by (small) boat. The boats aren't very big, but comfort is acceptable and safety is high, making them a good alternative to the more expensive and restrictive airplane.
