The "Grotte du pêcheur" is a nice little restaurant installed under illuminated trees in the evening. It distinguishes itself from the other establishments by the welcome of the owner, of a great simplicity without losing in friendliness, quite the contrary. The atmosphere is quiet and family. The fish and seafood dishes are good and their prices are much more accessible than those of the restaurants located on the beach. There are also some small typically Mexican snacks, such as tacos or empanadas. A very good time in perspective.

A small bistro that serves some of the best and most sincere international cuisine in the city. Here, the welcome is warm and personalized and you almost feel like you're back home. The incorrigible conservatives will even find bouillabaisse and a sauté of foie gras. But the references are not only French, since Chef Peter's creativity also extends to North and Mesoamerican fusion (pork-ribs glazed with tamarind) or Italian (ravioli and fettuccine). A small and very nice place that sends superb tostadas (grilled corn cakes) of fish and seafood. For cold dishes, let yourself be tempted by the ceviche or aguachile tostadas (octopus, shrimp, tuna, salmon or local fish). Looking for a hot dish? Go for the grilled or marinated tuna, coconut shrimp or even the vampire tostadas with melted cheese and garlic. De-li-cious. If you like to eat well, get off the beaten track, make the detour to this family restaurant which is a little set back from the tourist area, several blocks from the beach. The locals come here to eat generous fish and shellfish dishes, at more than affordable prices... The restaurant, which doesn't look like much, is on the second floor of a house and is recognizable by its facade, which is decorated with a mural fresco. You won't have any trouble to find it, all the taxis in Progreso know the address...

Belleville is the new French bakery and pastry shop in Playa del Carmen. It offers French pastries, breakfasts, sandwiches, coffee and juices. It is certainly more out of the tourist area than others, but it offers quality products and lower prices. The bread is natural sourdough with a long period of growth and fermentation, which makes all the difference. Go there with your eyes closed to buy bread and pastries or to eat in the cafeteria.
