INTERVIEW with Laetitia and Augustin, expatriates and founder of PRIMITIF AVENTURE:

What is your background, what brought you to the great north of Lapland?

Laëtitia studied environmental management and protection and Augustin worked as a polar guide and outdoor worker. Both passionate about wilderness, we have discovered the Nordic countries, both in Europe and on the North American continent. During our adventures, we met the Taïmyr dog breed in Lapland and adopted our first dog Ruska. Afterwards, we decided to live our dreams in the Great North and to settle there. We chose Lapland for its large preserved natural spaces, its calm and its changing lights while remaining in Europe.

How are your dogs different from other sled dogs?

The Taimyr dog is a primitive, ancestral, endangered breed that we try to preserve in our conservation kennel. The Taimyr dog, already present at the time of the mammoths, is a versatile dog, it can be used as a sled dog, a companion dog, a bear hunter or a herding dog. It is a dog of endurance, allowing us to leave over several days in autonomy. They are affectionate dogs, social, and very listening. We bring them an education based on love and respect. They are each different and are considered as members of our family. For us, they are perfect dogs for the public.

What other activities do you offer, especially in summer?

In summer: We offer canine walks, allowing you to meet our dogs and create a unique bond with them. We rent out canoes and kayaks to paddle the wild rivers of Lapland. We also offer atypical lodgings such as the traditional Finnish kota, located on the edge of a lake, or a yurt in the heart of the boreal forest. Our accommodations are on camps, without running water and in harmony with nature, offering a timeless experience and a total disconnection. We also propose to live a real Finnish experience by taking a Nordic bath, with a traditional sauna, then dive into the lake under the midnight sun and taste a freshly caught fish smoked on a wood fire.

We also offer tailor-made trips for all those who want to experience a Lappish adventure with French-speaking guides.

In winter: We have different stays from the family stay with all comfort to the raid with the possibility of sleeping under the stars through a stay polyactivities.

According to you, your 3 reasons to love Lapland?

1) The silence and the beauty of the great wild spaces

2) The lights that Lapland offers us between the northern lights, the polar night, the return of the sun and the midnight sun.

3) To have the impression of traveling while staying in the same place, thanks to the 8 very marked seasons which make the landscapes change radically and make us dream at any time.
