Thanks to a number of people in the Gers, the long-forgotten Gascon palet was given a new lease of life in the 1980s. The first Palet Gascon World Championship was organized in Lialores in 1990, with an impressive prize of local produce! A "palet gascon" section was finally created within the Fédération Départementale des Foyers Ruraux in 1994 to regulate the game, manage the competition calendar and organize annual events.

Rugby is one of the most popular sports in Occitanie! Across the 13 départements, the Ligue Occitanie de Rugby has a total of 80,000 members (players and managers combined), 393 clubs and 700 referees.
