Ecomuseum like a traditional village, with a collection of historical buildings, heritage objects and a biodiversity area
In 1971, faced with the deterioration of the Alsatian architectural heritage, a group of young enthusiasts decided to implement a safeguarding project. In 1980, a first house was saved from demolition and rebuilt on a wasteland in the town of Ungersheim; this was the beginning of the great adventure of the Ecomuseum of Alsace. The museum welcomes its first visitors during the summer of 1984; today, it is the largest open-air museum in France!
The Écomusée d'Alsace is organized like a real Alsatian village from the beginning of the 20th century in the heart of nature! Discover the rural heritage of Alsace by moving among more than 70 traditional buildings: houses, farms, schools, chapels, train stations, sawmills... It presents the main types of Alsatian architecture, selected according to their representativeness in relation to a region, a period or a social group. These buildings were all built thanks to donations from Alsatians. The immersion is completed by a collection of nearly 100,000 everyday objects, clothes, or tools for a real jump in the past! But it is also a space of preserved biodiversity with 4 nature trails: through the fields, the forest and along the river. Thanks to the animations and the volunteers, the village lives at the rhythm of the seasons and the Alsatian traditions: feeding of the pigs, milking of the cow, school of former days and recipes of seasonal cooking. Don't miss the boat, cart or tractor rides.

The Écomusée d’Alsace is the largest living open-air museum in France and shows an Alsatian village from the early 20th century. It illustrates what rural life was like in Alsace and invites visitors to find out about the popular traditions and art of the region, including buildings and artefacts, craftsmen at work, temporary exhibitions, attractions and events both small and large.
In 2014, the museum also started turning its attention to the major challenges that tomorrow holds in store for us, for the environment, agriculture, nature and “living together”. A new area, “Living in the 21st century”, featuring a festival of experiments in architecture, heralds the start of this new project, which shows that the Écomusée d’Alsace is also very much a museum of today’s society, with a firmly-established heritage and tourist facilities, of which it is justly proud.

Dommage que l'accueil à la Taverne laisse à désirer, pas de bonjour à l'entrée, longue attente pour être placé alors que nous n'étions pas à une heure de pointe. Accueil en fin de la journée à la boulangerie pas top non plus, avis partagé avec les clients précédents et suivants.
Merci d'avoir partagé votre retour d'expérience. S'agissant de la restauration, nous sommes sincèrement navrés d'apprendre votre mésaventure... toutefois sachez que tous les établissements de restauration sont gérés par une société indépendante, nous n'hésiterons pas à leur faire remonter votre remarque.

Malheureusement nous avons été très mal reçu à la boulangerie (dame blonde) très très désagréable ! Nous avons failli quitter les lieux ! Heureusement que la jeune fille qui l'accompagne est, quant à elle, plus amiable.
À contrario, le mécanicien (tracteurs) est très sympathique. Nous le remercions pour son accueil.
