The island of Muna, in the province of Sulawesi Tenggara, lies south of the southeastern tip of Sulawesi, in the Flores Sea. Covering an area of 1,704 km², it has a hilly topography, with teak forests to the north and northeast. The Muna people are predominantly Muslim, speaking an Austronesian language. Their main occupation is agriculture, growing rice and tubers, as well as sago and sea cucumbers. Animal species such as babiroussa and cuscus are also found here. The main town and central port are located in Raha, on the northeast coast.
