Rotuma is Fiji's most isolated archipelago, north of Viti Levu. There are very few visitors here, and it's not so much the constraint of the invitation that has to be obtained in advance as the remoteness that is the cause. Rotuma's population is a minority group, with a culture closer to the islands of Polynesia. The island is depopulating considerably, and many Rotumians live in Viti Levu or have moved to New Zealand and Australia. This small island has several points of interest: Mount Suelhof, Sisilo where the presence of several cannons indicates the location of royal tombs and, at Sumi, the church is well worth a visit. In December and January, the island of Rotuma is unusually busy during the Fara festivities, with most of the island's diaspora returning to Rotuma for the occasion. For almost six weeks, groups of people sing and dance every evening, moving from house to house, before an equally enthusiastic audience.
