Travel Guide Erg Iguidi

Bordered by the hamada of Drâa, to the north, the peneplain of Karet, which dominates the fort of Chegga, to the south, and the erg Chech, to the east, the linear dunes of erg Iguidi straddle the Algerian-Mauritanian border. These sandy cordons, oriented northeast / southwest under the effect of the harmattan, stretch over several hundred kilometers. Difficult to access, these tongues of sand, flaves or mordorées, are occasionally visited by gazelles. For the time being, the visit of the erg - included, since 2017, in the military zone decreed by the Ministry of Defense to fight, among other things, against drug trafficking - is formally discouraged.
