Buta is located in the northeast of the country, near the border with the Central African Republic. The city has a population of about 145,000 and is the capital of Buta territory. It is an important agricultural and trading town in the region. The main crops in the region are cassava, corn and rice. Transportation is mainly by river, on the Uele River. There is a small airport near the city.In terms of infrastructure, the city has a hospital and some hotels for visitors. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is a place of worship and an important landmark in the city.
