It is one of the largest national parks in the world and the second largest in Chile. With 2.8 million hectares, this park, inaugurated in January 2019, is the result of a collaboration between the Chilean State and the Tompkins Foundation (which, it should be remembered, is responsible for the creation of several national parks in Chile). A sanctuary of beauty, the park aims to protect its virgin lands and its various ecosystems: temperate coastal forests, peat bogs, endemic fauna, lagoons, rivers and glaciers. The park is also home to a hundred or so animal species including the puma, the huemul, the humpback whale and the condor.
