This vast national park (206,770 ha) is located in the Western Cordillera, between 200 and 4,100 m above sea level. It has two waterborne slopes (western flood to the Pacific) and eastern (Rio Cauca and its tributaries), and four ecosystems: wet sub-andean forest (between 200 and 1 200 m), characterized by large trees; wet Andean forest (between 1 200 and 2 000 m) with many Andes oak trees; the high Andean forest (between 2 000 and 3 500 m) with many epiphyte plants; and the magnificent páramo beyond 3,500 m. These ecosystems host incredible diversity of birds (540 species), mammals (pumas, ocelots, bear bears…) and primates.
