Playa de Muerto (Dead Man's Beach) is a village on the Pacific coast, accessible from Garachiné when the weather permits (dangerous). The more intrepid will embark on a week-long half-crossing of the Darién from La Palma, or two long days from Sambú. These treks through the forest, with a guide only, are very demanding, but the arrival on the grey sandy beach at the end of the jungle, is an indescribable spectacle. An equally poignant welcome from the Emberá community who live there. For accommodation, ask for the Casa Comunal (+507 6672 7663), 15 US$ per person for the most basic accommodation.
