CAANA TEMPLE

This is the highest temple on the site, whose name means "the place of heaven". This enormous pyramid rises 43 metres above the ground, well above the canopy, making it the tallest structure in the country to date, and the reason for its current international renown. Caana is surmounted by three temples and four palaces, whose rooms were originally covered with stucco decorations embellished with paintings. It is one of the most elaborate constructions known from the classical era.
