KUKLICA ROCK FORMATIONS (КАМЕНИ КУКЛИЦА КУКЛИ)

On a small perimeter of 400 m ², along the right bank of the Kriva River, some 120 columns of rock formed approximately 100,000 years ago. Nicknamed "stone dolls" (kameni kuli), their strange shapes evoke animals or human beings. The legend even says that it would be the bodies of the inhabitants of the petrified region while participating in a marriage between two lovers of rival villages. This phenomenon was caused by erosion: other rocks, more friable, have disappeared, while more solid and volcanic rocks (andissite and ignimbrite dating back about 30 million years) are resisted as columns.
