LAKE LIVOQ/LIVOČ

This 8 ha artificial lake (Liqeni i Livoqit, Livočko jezero) was created in 1984 with a 21 m high dam on the course of the Southern Morava River. Located on the roadside, it is 700 m long and 200 m wide. It is not subject to any particular development. It is here that some of the 80 victims of the Gjilan/Gnjilane massacre in June-October 1999 were buried. It is the second largest lake in the region, after Përlepnica/Prilepnica (16 ha), located 8.5 km north-east of the town centre, near the Vali Ranch hotel complex.
