The castle dates back to the early 1200 s. In the th century Pope Alexander VI won the castle by ruse and removed it from the Caetani. It is he who decides his transformation into a fortress before offering it to his son, César Borgia, who is known in particular thanks to the portrait Machiavelli made of him in Le Prince.
