Silverton was born in 1880, at the time of the gold rush (silver actually!). Today, with less than 40 inhabitants, a few donkeys and wild horses and two coffee shops, the town is nevertheless very lively: 100,000 people pass through every year. Its red earth, its two churches, its old prison, its blazing sunsets made Silverton an ideal setting for the cinema which shot here several scenes of great successes(Mad Max II, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Mission Impossible II...). A few craftsmen and artists have settled in the town and the Mad Max Museum regularly attracts many tourists.
