Toporkov Island is located west of Cape Vkhodnoy Rif (Entrance Reef) on Bering Island. It is circular in shape and about 1 km in diameter, with an altitude of no more than 9 m. It has no freshwater springs. Its name comes from the toporok, the crested puffin, a bird that lives in large colonies on the island. These birds are not the only ones as the area is protected (it is part of the Komandorski Nature Reserve), and cormorants, gulls, auklets and many others nest here en masse.
