FIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DEL CARMEN DE LA TIRANA

The festival of the Virgin del Carmen attracts thousands of pilgrims and travellers every year to the small village of La Tirana. It is one of the most important festivals in northern Chile, with more than 200 brotherhoods of Chilean, but also Peruvian and Bolivian dancers coming to parade through the streets of the village. During his visit to Chile in 2018, Pope Francis officially recognized this religious festival and also crowned the blessed image of the Virgin in Iquique.
