Travel Guide Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag, is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh, with over 2 million inhabitants. It is an important commercial, maritime and military port on the Bengal coast. Its main economic activity comes from its shipyard and steel industry. Vizag is also a popular seaside resort, the only one in the state, and its beach comes alive during the vacations. The city's northern beaches are renowned for being a good surfing spot. But don't expect to find the Goa of the East, as it's known locally. There are few or no foreign tourists, nightlife is non-existent and local sensitivities have to be respected, especially when it comes to beachwear. The town has a few interesting sights, but is not particularly attractive to Western tourists. It is, however, a good stopover for exploring the Araku Valley, or en route to the towns of Konark and Puri in Odisha if you're traveling from Chennai.
