MONASTÈRE DE RIGSUM GOMPA

Highly venerated by the Bhutanese, the Rigsum Gompa monastery ("gompa" means monastery in Tibetan) was built in the ^18th century by Lham Tshering Gyamtsho on one of the sites where Guru Rinpoche used to meditate. Inside, Buddha is omnipresent: there are magnificent paintings of his life, as well as a beautiful statue executed by a Newar craftsman. Perched at an altitude of 2,300 m, the monastery is a 3-hour walk from Bumdeling. It is a 2h30 drive from Trashigang, even further than the village of Trashi Yangste.
