Arnhem Land is a unique region of Australia where Aboriginal peoples have been able to choose a way of life that combines modernity and ancestral practices. Arnhem Land was proclaimed an Aboriginal reserve in 1931 by the Australian government, 40 years before the start of the Land Rights movement, which saw many Aboriginal groups reclaim their land. With its rugged coastline, deserted islands, fish-filled rivers, rainforests and rugged cliffs, Arnhem Land is also one of the last unspoilt regions on our planet to be managed using traditional Aboriginal environmental methods.
