The Orange River, 2,160 km long, is one of the longest rivers in southern Africa. It originates in the Drakensberg Mountains in Lesotho and flows westward through South Africa to the Atlantic Ocean. The river acts as a natural border with South Africa. To see it appear in such an arid environment after crossing southern Namibia is a miracle: a net of greenery follows it on both banks and allows Namibians to grow table grapes and produce wine. The contrast between the orange of the cliffs, the blue of the water and the green of the vegetation is sublime.
