Camooweal, located on the Queensland side of the border with the Northern Territory, is a post office and hotel/motel on the Barkly Highway. This is your first objective on the East Coast Highway, before Mount Isa, a small mining town known for its rodeos. There is a small museum about cattle ranchers, Drovers' Camp, the main economic activity of the region. Crossing the Barkly region into Queensland is done by taking the Barkly Highway at Three Ways on the Stuart Highway, 25km north of Tennant. The 460km route is quite good, with only one stop for a break, the Barkly Homestead.
