A stopover town between Fort Portal and Kampala, Mubende is known by travellers to be the place to stop for a drink and some grilled meat. The commercial activity of the city is located on the national road at 1 km from the center. Mubende is a pretty little town set in the middle of very fertile hilly countryside. It is also the heart of the ancient medieval kingdom of the Bacwezi, the forerunner of the modern kingdoms of the region. The town is an ideal base for those wishing to learn more about the Cwezi culture, federated around places like the knotted tree of Nakayima at the top of Mubende hill (1,573 m).
