Around the beginning of August, Afro-Bolivians from the nearby villages of Mururata, Coripata and Tocaña come to celebrate a patronal feast. They are the last descendants of slaves from the mines of Potosí, and live in the villages of the Yungas (including Tocaña, 30 minutes by 4x4 from Coroico, just on the hill opposite), and subsist on coca cultivation. Their music, the Saya, has become one of the important musical components of the country. The welcome in the village is often warm, at least if everyone is not in the fields. Don Cesar Aragandoña, owner of a small café at the entrance of the village, will suggest interesting excursions in the surroundings
