Of the country's 24 indigenous reserves, only 5 have retained their indigenous customs and customs, the Maleku community is part of it, which is the only indigenous group in the north of the country.Maleku means "I am myself." The Dialecte Jaica dialect comes from the family of Chibchas, the largest in the lower region of Central America. This community, which lives in the dense forest of the plains of Guatuso, was only very little influenced during colonization thanks to the great distance that separated them from the Spanish camps mainly in the Central Valley and the Nicoya peninsula.A decade ago, a major leader of the Wilson Morera Elizondo community, called Tafa, decided to save the culture of Maleku by encouraging young people to perpetuate language and traditions, bringing a new source of income to families in the community to improve their daily lives. In order to develop an ecological, tourist and cultural project, he built los, or traditional houses, with local materials to accommodate tourists wishing to discover one of Costa Rica's first civilizations.
