A good half hour drive from Moulmein, or Mawlamyine, is an amazing place that this pagoda. Entrance is free, open every day from dawn to dusk. The pagoda, unique of its kind, rises out of the middle of the jungle north of Mawlamyine, and its style is quite indescribable. Three golden rocks one on top of the other emerge from the lush wilderness. This superb "monument", still little frequented by curious travellers, is also a very famous place of pilgrimage, and the Burmese people flock there at weekends. It is also this crowd of enthusiasts that makes the moment the most interesting, but also the most practical to come, as many pick-ups ensuring the connection from Mawlamyine are chartered on occasion.
