Adjacent to the capital, Faa'a is the most populated commune of Fenua: 29,507 inhabitants in the 2017 census, compared to 26,926 for Papeete. It is of little tourist interest and acts a bit like the "peri-urban area" of Papeete. Away from the airport facilities, the valleys and mountain slopes of Faa'a are residential areas sought after for their more attractive prices and their proximity to the administrative and economic heart of the territory. As a traveller, you are unlikely to spend much time there unless you are on a stopover or staying at the Intercontinental.
