PAPUA KEIKAHA ARBORETUM

On the road linking Vaipaee to Hane you will find this botanical garden of a unique type in Polynesia without difficulty. Created in 1974, this site of 17 ha is a kind of test zone for many species coming from around the world, in particular about 200 different citrus fruits representing the largest genetic collection in the Pacific, and a quantity of other species of both silviculture and fruit. The Marquesas are in the throes of deforestation because of the relatively dry and salty climate, especially because of livestock farming.
