SCULPTEUR JEAN KAUTAI

Jean is one of the most famous stone sculptors on the island, if not in Polynesia: with two other artists from Ua Pou (Sylvain and Petero); he contributed in particular to the realization of the altar of the church of Sainte-Thérèse in Taunoa (Tahiti), and to the design of a 6-ton piece in flowered stone. Jean exhibits at the craft center in Hakahau, but you can drop by to see him working with his wife at his home in Honoi, and experience the art of pruning first hand. Prices vary according to the size and density of the stone.
