ANA'AEO CAVE (MITTERRAND CAVE)

On the west side of the island, a huge cavity measuring 40 by 30 m and 15 m high, punctuated by very eroded stalagmites. The cave of Ana'aeo, or Vitaria, is also sometimes called "Mitterrand's cave", since his visit in May 1990, where he was offered songs and dances in a real natural theatre. In the southern part, observe the cavity about 2.50 m in diameter: this is where the prisoners were cooked for the evening skewer!
